State of Alaska Fishing Report or June 06, 2017
Chinook salmon
Marine angling effort remained high last week during the second weekend of the Ketchikan King Salmon Derby with 484 king salmon entered so far. King salmon were caught south of town at Mountain Point, Herring Cove, Cone Island and north of town near Survey Point, Grant Island and Camano Point. King salmon fishing will continue to improve, historically peaking around the end of June.
Anglers are advised that king salmon restrictions are in effect in the Ketchikan area sport fishery in order to reduce the harvest of Unuk River king salmon and ensure the Unuk River king salmon escapement goal is achieved in 2017. Please refer to the news release and map for description of areas with reduced limits.
Coho salmon
Coho salmon continue to make an appearance in the local marine fishery and returns should continue to build over the summer.
Halibut
While effort this time of year is mostly focused on king salmon, reports from anglers targeting halibut have been good and catch rates will continue to improve into summer.
